As economic news remains dire for Washington State employees, their goodwill continues to spread.
This year, in the face of decreasing job losses, salary freezes and temporary leave days, the employees of Washington State and its higher education institutions pledged yet another $5.3 million to local, national and global charities.
Employees at the University of Washington once again propelled the institution to an amazing $2 million total, by far exceeding any other higher education institution in Washington State, and the Department of Social and Health Services topped the total pledge dollar amount for state agencies with just over $515,000.
Whatcom Community College highlighted this year’s success stories, adding 45 new donors to its numbers for an incredible 89 percent participation rate. The institution continues to be a model of success for community and technical colleges around the state.
In these unprecedented and desperate economic times, Washington State employees continue to showcase tremendous generosity, averaging $50 gifts per year, by far one of the highest per capita amounts in the country.
Charities like the United Way of King County are seeing the benefits.
“We are incredibly excited to be a part of the Combined Fund Drive,” the organization said. “We appreciate the generosity of Washington State employees who choose to support our work to end homelessness, give every child and equal chance to succeed and meet people's basic needs.”
