Summit Assistance Dogs was founded in 2000 by Sue Meinzinger, a graduate of the Assistance Dog Institute in Santa Rosa, CA, to help meet the overwhelming demand for skilled service dogs.

The charity not only helps those in need of a service dog, it also works to rehabilitate those in prison.

At about 8-10 months of age, Summit dogs in training progress to the Monroe Correctional Complex. Since 2010, our partnership with the prison has been an integral part of our training program. Dogs typically spend two ten-week sessions in Monroe. Each dog is housed with two inmates, who receive twice-weekly lessons from our staff of professional trainers.
